Creating my logo.
I wanted to make my logo minimal, clear and modern with no imagery, simply just the name of my magazine ‘Edit Conscious’. As my logo will be so simple it means the font that I choose is even more important than if it was going to be more complex and arty.
I didn't want to use a graphic designer to design my logo as I didn't think it was necessary due to the fact I didn't want an intricate design. I also didn't want to have to make space in my budget for paying a designer for a logo as I have so many pieces of makeup and clothing I need to purchase for photo shoots, it doesn't seem important enough or a sensible decision for me to make by spending money when I can save in this area.

I searched on websites such as Fonts In Use (https://fontsinuse.com/) for inspiration on what other magazines are using for their content and logo’s but couldn’t find one that was right for Edit Conscious. The next step I took in my research was looking on Da Font (http://www.dafont.com/) which was recommended to me by fellow course mates as you can type in the name of your brand or magazine and scroll through the vast database of fonts available and see what your name looks like using each typeface. I found this really successful as I was able to eliminate typefaces much more quickly and efficiently as I could see straight away how my logo would look. As I knew what I wanted in my mind I was able to find my font with ease. I went for ‘Bebas Neue’ which is a simple and quite popular magazine font but it was exactly what I wanted and fit the brief perfectly.
This is my finished logo, it is simplistic and contemporary and I like how it looks on my social media pages and mock up for my website layout. I can imagine it on the front cover of my magazine and I think it will look great in whatever colour I need it in to go with the colour palette of my magazine. Whilst it is bold, it isn’t obnoxious and I like that the letters are tall and slender rather and short and thick. I think this simplistic and minimal logo fits perfectly with the aesthetic of my magazine as I never wanted the logo to take away the attention from any other aspect from my work, to be it is simply advertising the name of my magazine and I want people to be able to recognise it easily.
