Photo shoot in London with Anna

I travelled down to London on the 29th March to do my vintage/charity shop inspired shoot with my friend Anna. The weather was quite cloudy and grey so I was already worried about losing light as she wasn't free until 3pm to do the shoot. I am confident with my ability to take a good picture however when it comes to working a camera and being familiar with the settings needing for certain images, lights and locations I am very inexperienced. By 3.45 I had picked out all the clothing and accessories and we took to the streets to start photographing the outfits. The first outfit went really well, we found a good spot to take the photos and the light was quite nice. When it came to the second outfit it had got a lot darker outside due to grey cloud coverage, I tried to edit the camera settings to adjust to the lighting change however was quite unsuccessful. Because of these two problems combined we were limited to spots to take photos as a lot of the nice spots around the street were under large trees and the houses were so tall that they blocked out a lot of light. By the time we had finished the shoot and photographed all outfits I felt quite demoralised and downtrodden. With each outfit changes the lighting was quite different and as it was cold out we had rushed a lot of the shoot as my model was cold. We arranged to reschedule the shoot to a warmer day and to start a lot earlier to reduce the chance of light changes. Although this was irritating and disheartening, I feel confident that next time will run a lot smoother as my model knows the outfits I want to shoot so she can have them ready for my arrival next time. I think I am going to pay for the photographer I am using to shoot a lot of my magazine to come to London to take the images for me so I don't have to worry about having any technical problems I am unable to solve. After this shoot that has become my test shoot, I am now familiar with all the good locations on the street I am using as my location and how I can direct the shoot slightly differently next time. Below are some of the images I took on the day:

For the next shoot I want to restyle some of the outfits and include maybe one more. I also want to have some close up photographs of the details of the outfits so that the accessories and specific parts of the clothing are showcased in the editorial. I would also like to mix up the locations and poses a bit more to make for a more exciting editorial. Although the photo shoot not coming together as I would have liked first time is a shame, I feel like it has prepared me to make sure the next one produces even better imagery.
