Budget plan
I was very conscious of what I was spending throughout the whole process of making the magazine, as I am a student I have barely any money from my loan left after I pay my rent, bills and phone bill each month. I have a part time job which I use to pay for food and compulsory expenses so I had to cut down the spending in all these areas of my life in order to be able to afford clothes and makeup for my shoot. I think I did really well with my budget, I estimated I would spend around £1000 altogether. Here is a breakdown of my actual costs:
Makeup: £265
Fashion: £617.98
Photography: £30 for a train for a photographer to come to London
Wix website & domain name: £27.38
Total: £940.36
I was pretty spot on with my budget plan with around £60 below my estimated spendings. I estimated about £150 on makeup products, although I went over this by spending £265 I didn't feel as bad as these items will last me a long time in my kit. As I didn't have to pay for my models and photographers apart from £30 expenses for one of my shoots I saved a lot of money here. Most on my shoots were on location, but I had the option of using the free professional studios at uni so I didn't need to pay to rent private studio spaces. I spent £617.98 on clothing which was pretty accurate to the £600 I predicted, however was able to send all the clothing I bought back after I had used them for the shoot which saved me a lot of money. Paying for my wix website monthly and a domain name for a year only cost me £27.38. I think using this budget plan was a really good practise and something that I will continue to use in the future when completing projects as it has enabled me to set myself a target that I can afford and then teaching me to learn where to cut costs if I can. It was really interesting to discover that my spending predictions were pretty accurate as when I made the plan I hadn't completed a lot of research into how much different things would cost, it was purely an educated guess.
