Website mock-up ideas & development.
In order to create my website and make the process as simple and least complicated as possible I wanted to have a mock design of the layout to work from. I used Photoshop to design the mock layout below. The layout shows the home page of the website as it will look to the viewer.
I want the website to be very simple to match with the aesthetic of my magazine and contain simply my logo, relevant links and information and a promotional image on the homepage. I want the webpage to have simple navigation and like my magazine content, digestible content.
The website will be used as a place for the readers to purchase the publication upon its release. As well as being a platform to purchase the magazine it will also contain a link to the social media platforms, a contact link so that readers can reach out to me if necessary and also an ‘About’ link which will contain a simple bio about the background, intentions and content the magazine will feature. The ‘About’ page will be explaining Edit Conscious’ intentions to be as sustainable, ethical and minimal as possible for those interested in that type of lifestyle. I will be using my Project Focus from my proposal to help write this. To make the website visually pleasing the home page will also contain a large preview image taken from one of my shoots as a teaser for the first issue that will be released in May.
Disclaimer: The image used in the mock layout for my website is not my own and was taken from the Olive & Frank Instagram page just for design inspiration purposes.
I presented this mock-up in my Pecha Kucha with Anna and Russel on Tuesday 21st February and they gave me feedback which I have taken on board. They both advised that to make it as minimal and simple as possible it would be a good idea to make my website homepage simply the official front cover of the May 2017 issue with a just a ‘Buy’ link. I really like this idea and am taking it on board however I still want to have my four links on the website: ‘Buy’, ‘About’ and ‘Contact Us’.
In my Pecha Kucha presentation I said that the home page image on my website would change weekly to a preview of an editorial shoot that will be in my magazine, however I am going to keep my homepage image to be my front cover image permanently and use preview imagery exclusively for my Instagram.
I have decided now to create my website on Wix as I have never used Adobe Muse before and feel like I can use my time wisely elsewhere as Wix have very professional templates for free which will make my website exactly how I want it to be and how I would have made it on Muse but in a fraction of the time.
